James Hays is a 2023 RHP/1B, 3B with a 6-2 210 lb. frame from Hawkinsville, GA who attends The Westfield Schools. Large, athletic frame with broad shoulders and present physical strength proportioned throughout. Right-handed pitcher, side step moving into delivery, leg lift up to belt, gathers on backside well before driving down the mound; full arm action through the back, fast arm working to a high three-quarters release point Fastball topped out at 93 mph and maintained 90-93 mph throughout, fastball jumps out of hand, worked around the zone and showed comfort working to arm side, can get in on the hands of right-handed hitters. Slider is best secondary pitch, up to 84 mph, short and tight tilt to it. Showed four pitches for strikes and worked around the zone with them all, can throw any in any count. Tends to slow arm at times on changeup, shows some diving life up to 85 mph when finishing and curveball flashed 11-5 shape with some depth through the zone. High level arm with quality stuff. Physical strength plays in left-handed swing, shows looseness to hands and remains short to the ball. Launched a deep home run in BP off the scoreboard, very strong hand with simple swing, creates extension out front. Excellent student. Verbal commitment to Georgia.
