2023 Coastal Prospect Showcase (08/26/2023 - 08/27/2023)

Royal Game Highlights (Sun) >>

8/28/2023 10:56:09 AM

Alex Gonzalez (2025 2B, McLean, VA) was impressive all weekend with his glove work in the infield but also showed well on the mound.  He worked up to 83 mph with big life from a low 3/4's arm slot and threw a hard 72 mph curveball with 2500+ spin rates.

After getting no-hit for 5 innings in their first game, the Royal bats came out loud for the second game, registering 6 hits in 4 innings.  None was louder than James Robinson's (2025 C, Vienna, VA) big double into the left field corner.  That led to a rally as the Royal lashed 3 more consecutive hits by Beau Souders (2025 OF, Oakton, VA),Tavis Spiller (2024 2B, Mechanicsville, VA) and Nicholas Casimates (2025 RHP, Rockville, MD).

Gold Game Highlights (Sun) >>

8/28/2023 10:48:25 AM

Tanner Phillips (2025 1B, Centreville, VA) is a long and projectable 6-3/185 athlete with talent on both sides of the ball.  He worked two scoreless innings on the mound, striking out a pair of hitters and working in the 81-83 mph range with his fastball and throwing both a curveball and slider.  He also picked up a clean opposite field single.

Brady Shaw (2025 OF, Leesburg, VA) picked up a pair of base hits, including a double that he crushed down the left field line.  He had an aggressive pull oriented swing that worked well in the games.

Aaron Dierks (2026 RHP, Springfield, VA) continued to show his power potential with his second double of the weekend.

Matthew Duras (2025 1B, Oyster Bay, NY) picked up a couple of hits in the second game, including a hard hit pull side single.

Black Game Highlights (Sun) >>

8/27/2023 5:00:00 AM

Jonah Meyer (2025 C, Centreville, VA) looked strong on the mound this morning, striking out 5 batters in 2 innings without allowing a walk.  Meyer worked up to 84 mph with his fastball with nice cutting action and picked up a couple of strikeouts with a well commanded low 70's curveball.  The right handed hitter also picked up a few barrels.

Patrick Sido (2025 OF, Springfield, VA) graded out as one of the best hitters in batting practice and that carried over into the games well as the strong right handed hitter picked up a couple of game knocks, including a double.

Tyler Collins (2025 OF, Herndon, VA) picked up solid barrel base hits in both games, including driving a ball hard to the opposite field.

Ben Drinkwine (2026 OF, Aldie, VA) continued to find solid barrels just as he did all day Saturday, lining a hard single to center field and ending up at third base after a misplay by the center fielder.

Royal Game Highlights >>

8/27/2023 1:37:48 PM

Tavis Spiller (2024 2B, Mechanicsville, VA) is a primary middle infielder on defense but impressed on the mound with his raw stuff.  He was up to 86 mph with his fastball and also showed nice feel for a change up.  Spiller also had a good day at the plate, picking up a couple of singles.

Gordon Cozad (2026 SS, Vienna, VA) and Alex Gonzalez (2025 2B, McLean, VA) both stood out in the infield defensively, making several nice plays each and showing advanced overall actions.  Both graded out very well in the defensive drills earlier in the day, so it was a carryover that left a strong impression.

James Robinson (2025 C, Vienna, VA) also had a nice day defensively, as the Royal team shined in that area.  He made several nice blocks that saved his pitchers bases and also contributed with a sharp opposite field single.

Gold Game Highlights >>

8/27/2023 1:28:25 PM

Chase Mottley (2026 RHP, Mechanicsville, VA) struck out four hitters in his outing, showing a fastball up to 81 mph but also throwing both a curveball and a slider with high spin rates for his age.  The slender 5-11/150 athlete projects well.

Aaron Dierks (2026 RHP, Springfield, VA) has a big and strong 6-3/195 build and a fast right arm that produced a fastball up to 85 mph.  His 70 mph curveball has a chance to be an outstanding pitch, flashing spin rates over 2600 rpm.  Dierks will take his next step forward by developing more consistently in his delivery and ability to throw strikes.

Isaac Norman (2026 SS, Vienna, VA) produced a good deal of the Gold's offense on the day, lining a couple of hard singles and showing fast hands and an accurate barrel.

Black Game Highlights >>

8/27/2023 1:19:44 PM

Gary Ahrens (2025 LHP, Great Falls, VA) was very impressive in his three innings of work, striking out 7 hitters without allowing a hit.  The long and lean left hander worked up to 85 mph on his fastball and showed a full 3 pitch mix with a solid slider and quality change up.

Eli Montgomery (2025 RHP, Washington, DC) showed the power in his bat when he turned on a 83 mph fastball and drove it over the left fielder's head for a triple.  He also threw three hitless innings on the mound, topping out at 80 mph.

Charles "Fletcher" Warner (2026, OF, Severna Park, MD) and Ben Drinkwine (2026 OF, Aldie, VA) both squared up a couple of balls hard and were consistently on time with their swings.  Drinkwine is a big and strong young athlete while Warner is a twitchy athlete with solid speed on the bases.

Caleb Bang (2026 3B, Centreville, VA) picked up a triple and RBI to highlight his offensive day.  He also pitched two solid innings, striking out 4 hitters while throwing 59% strikes.

Batting Practice Highlights >>

8/26/2023 5:50:37 PM

Bryce Munchel (2026 SS, Aldie, VA) hits from a spread stance with a calm and somewhat still start that left him well timed and able to repeat his swing.  He filled up the gaps with solid line drives and will keep improving as he fills in his 6-1/160 build.

Patrick Sido (2025 OF, Springfield, VA) has nice strength in his 6-0/190 frame and does a good job of translating that into bat speed.  He repeats his swing and timing well and got into a nice line drive groove during his round.

Ben Drinkwine (2026 OF, Aldie, VA) looks the part at 6-2/194 and has a nice and loose swing that hits through the ball and creates lots of jump.  He flashed his long-term power potential.

Tanner Phillips (2025 1B, Centreville, VA) is another athlete who looks the part at 6-3/185.  The left handed hitter has a pull and lift approach with nice hand quickness and some jump off the barrel.

William Austin McNair (2026 OF, Severn, MD) has very hitterish actions in the box with a loose and easy swing that created hard line drive contact to all fields.  With a slender 6-0/145 build, there's a ton of physical projection here.

Jack Woda (2026 C, Arlington, VA) turned in the best round of day, as the young right handed hitter drove the ball consistently hard and deep from a power approach.  There's real bat speed and plenty of lift here.

Beau Souders (2025 OF, Oakton, VA) has a very loose and easy swing from the left side and a 6-1/175 build that really projects.  He has present bat speed with more to come.

Samuel Antevil (2025 OF, Highland, MD) has an uphill swing approach that works well for him.  He swings hard and the right handed hitter created some carry to the gaps and especially to right center field.
