2023 West Academic Showcase (Tues-Wed)
Rhys Appleby is a 2024 RHP/2B, 3B with a durable 5-9 185 lb. frame from San Francisco, CA who attends Archbishop Riordan HS. Started the event clocking a 7.40 60-yard dash. A primary pitcher with a 3-pitch mix that includes a fastball, curveball and a changeup. Shows fundamentally sound mechanics with a clean repeatable delivery out of a 3/4 arm slot. Fastball showed good arm-side run and the curveball had solid 12-6 shape and late life. Appleby struck out three in 2 2/3s innings pitched. Made all the required plays on the dirt working through the baseball and demonstrated he is able to make all the throws from all the Angles. At the plate, he was able to generate excellent bat speed with his strong hands, strong lower half, and barrel up the baseball with some consistency. Excellent student.

Swing Efficiency™
Swing Efficiency™ is a score from 0-100 based on how fast you move your body compared to other players of a similar height and weight. Our library of over 10,000 hitters shows that for a given body type, higher swing efficiencies generate higher exit velos. PG All-American Arjun Nimmala may only weigh 170 lbs, but he can still hit 103MPH off a tee thanks to his elite Swing Efficiency™.
