2006 California Uncommitted Showcase
Tyler Albright is a 2007 C with a 6'2'', 180 lb. frame from Long Beach CA, who attends Woodrow Wilson HS. Selected as a Top 10 Prospect at this event. Albright has a long, lanky, agile body that is a plus at the catcher position. Albright was perhaps the top player in the showcase in terms of performance, tools, and usability of his tools. He was 5-6 with three doubles and hit them to all parts of the field, from the pulling one down the left field line to banging one deep into right center off an 89 mph fastball. His barrel stays in the zone a long time and he has leverage in his swing. Albright's present day power is good but there is a lot more to come. He has good hands and excellent timing, with good bat speed. Defensively Albright played with great energy. He was as springy and lively with his movements at the end of the last game as he was at the beginning of the first game. He is a plus blocker, has an arm that is strong and tracks accurately, and is a very good receiver. Albright's agility and flexibility allow him to sit low and present an excellent target to throw, as well as playing well in the block/recover part of his job. He is a top end defensive catcher but still has tremendous upside. For the two days of this event, Albright sure looked like a good pro prospect, not event to mention being a high end D1 player. Add to that his 4.58 GPA, wow. The top D1 baseball/academic programs should be all over him.
