Casey Gillespie is a 2007 3B/C with a 5'10'', 195 lb. frame from Penngrove CA, who attends Rancho Cotate HS. Gillespie has a thick, strong body with a particularly strong lower half. He has some projectability with the bat. His wrists and hands work well in his swing. Gillespie has a short stroke and made a lot of hard barrel contact. He is a timing type hitter and does have good timing. The ball exits his bat well and he showed some opposite field power potential. Gillespie's swing stays on a level plane and he really banged the away fastball, indicating good plate coverage. Defensively Gillespie showed a good release from 3rd base. His arm has some strength and tracks accurately across the diamond. One thing he does really well is simply play catch. He makes his plays, showing good reactions and then the ability to get the ball airborne quickly. His hands are good and even worked for him behind the plate when he caught briefly. Gillespie is a decent receiver and his arm showed that same carry from behind the plate. Consider him a follow college prospect heading into the fall.
