Gaelan Mendoza is a 2023 LHP/1B with a 6-1 165 lb. frame from Thousand Oaks, CA who attends Oaks Christian. Large frame with a lean, athletic type build showing room to fill out physically in the future. Ran a 7.35 second sixty yard dash. Primary Left-Handed Pitcher, working with a balanced operation as he lifts before driving down the mound. Short arm action as he released from an extended three-quarter slot. Smooth delivery and a fluid arm action as he projects more velocity down the road. Released from a closed off position as he created natural deception. Traditional three pitch mix and proved to have feel for the entire arsenal. Fastball up to 80 mph with arm side run. Mixed in a tumbling changeup that he kept down in the zone. Also proved he could spin the breaking ball as it dove late in the zone. Will make big strides with command clean-up's as he matures in his prep days. Secondary First Baseman, sitting back on the baseball as he does a good job keeping the play in front of him. Confident with the glove as he scooped it up. Accurate throws turning two and proved to be fundamentally sound in his actions. Switch Hitter, from the left side, starting balanced before working into a big stride in. Free and easy hands as he fires them into the zone with a linear swing path. Weight kept on backside as he looked to drive it middle away. Created loud contact when he timed it up properly. From the right side, more confident on this side as he was under control throughout the duration of his round. Stayed short and simple as he whipped the bat head through the zone. Impacted out front and drove it to all fields on a line. Strength in the hands present and projects power from this side in the future with a strength gain. Good Student.
