Austin Barrett is a 2024 RHP/3B with a 6-3 210 lb. frame from Farmingville, NY who attends Sachem East. Big and strong build, pretty mature physically. Works from the stretch from the first base side of the rubber, sets his hands at his chest with a medium length on line arm takeaway, hand can be a bit late getting into position in back at times, works into and over his front side well, pretty simple overall mechanics. Fastball worked consistently in the low 80's and topped out at 85 mph, does a good job of throwing strikes with the fastball. Change up was a nice secondary pitch for him with good arm speed and nice fading life. Tended to slow his arm on a soft slider that was more a get me over pitch. Key to improvement will be more power to his breaking ball and a bit more consistency in his fastball command. Has an idea what he's doing on the mound. Good student. Named to the New York Indoor Showcase Top Prospect List.
