Kellen Payne is a 2025 RHP/OF with a 5-10 160 lb. frame from Byron Center, MI who attends Byron Center. Medium, athletic frame with square shoulders and a lean frame with additional room to fill throughout moving forward. Ran a 7.27 60-yard dash. Primary right-handed pitcher, side step moving into a leg lift up to the belt, works online with some extension down the mound; full arm action through the back with a higher release point, tends to finish towards first base with weight. Fastball topped out at 80 mph, best strikes to outer half, will continue to refine a consistent release point. Curveball shows 12-6 shape with plenty of depth when on top of the ball and shows a feel for the pitch; mixed a changeup as well up to 69 mph with short sinking life to it. Showed solid arm strength in the outfield and projects for more with added momentum to actions with lower half, shorter arm action, ball comes out cleanly, actions will continue to develop. Right-handed hitter, begins with an upright and slightly open stance at the plate; utilizes a leg lift trigger for timing in the box. Linear path through the zone and shows a feel for the barrel, contact oriented approach and can implement additional lower half into swing. Very good student.
