2007 Hawaii Showcase Tournament
Michael Edstrom is a 2007 LHP/1B with a 6'2'', 200 lb. frame from Grand Terrace CA, who attends Colton HS. He has a strong, athletically proportioned body and a powerfully built lower body. Edstrom showed solid ability on the mound and at the plate. He has a pretty loose arm and showed really good feel for his curveball. The more he threw the curveball, the better it got. It is a big, slow 12/6 type breaking ball and he was able to throw it for consistent strikes. His fastball was in the upper-70s and straight, albeit with good angle, so it would seem that perhaps he could be a successful college reliever, specializing in the curveball. As a hitter Edstrom takes a big swing but did show that he can make two strike adjustments, rare for young hitters. His swing naturally allows him to use the opposite field. Edstrom has some feel and ok bat speed. He would seem to be the type of hitter that would do well to continue developing at the JC level.
