Taj Jones is a 2022 LHP/OF with a 6-3 170 lb. frame from High Point, NC who attends Southwest Guilford. Projectable long build, good athletic display with some explosiveness to unlatch to take his skills to a new level. He posted a 7.27 in the 60 yard dash. Primary pitcher, the high waisted left-hander worked out of the stretch showing some life on his fastball that topped out at 79 mph. Easy tempo delivery, he was most effective running in on right handed hitters. Mostly went to the fastball, a bit of recovery working from behind counts in his outing but finds the zone with run. Uses a high leg lift getting down the hill clean and gets the backside through off the rubber. Low effort release, worked both sides of the zone with approach. Flashed a developing breaking ball, showed loose spin and guided arm action. Maintained velocity and finished strong, plenty of potential to discover and fits the part. Worked the outfield, present catch and throw skills struggled to translate to outfield mechanics. Plays back with limited footwork through the play but makes the glove work. Long loose arm action is the same on the mound, not much feel for the release letting some throws sail. Right handed hitter, starts with an open stance with a high hand set. He has smooth swing with some loft and feel for the barrel. Sound mechanics and settled well, showed low impact at contact. Good foundation hitting and intriguing showing on the mound, loads of potential with added strength to his tools. Excellent student.
