Ryan Smolen is a 2021 3B/1B, OF with a 5-11 210 lb. frame from Odenton, MD who attends Dematha Catholic. Compact frame with a lean build. Projects for additional strength with continue maturity. Primary second baseman with smooth paced footwork while rounding the baseball. Showed developing range to each side with soft hands while funneling out front. Released from a high three-quarters arm slot and created some carry to the bag at 58 mph. Right handed hitter with a spread, even stance and toe tap trigger. Works to contact with rotational lower half actions. Compact path to baseball with a line drive barrel plane through extension. Primarily looked to utilized a high contact, mid field approach. Excellent student.
