Charles West is a 2023 LHP/OF with a 5-10 160 lb. frame from South Setauket, NY who attends Ward Melville Senior. medium, square shouldered frame with a lean build and long limbs, room to grow moving forward. Ran a 7.96 60-yard dash. Primary left-handed pitcher, starts square to the plate, high leg lift at start of delivery, deliberate tempo throughout. Works downhill and towards the plate well, works to a high three-quarters release point. Fastball topped out at 83 mph, some jump out of hand, mostly true in life through the zone. Sharp 12-6 curveball with late bite up to 71 mph and mixed a changeup at 76 mph with late tumble at the plate. Takes short steps to the ball in the outfield, fields it out front and shows nice arm strength and carry on throws, comes through the ball, accurate to the plate and repeats actions well with some athleticism. Left-handed hitter, begins with an even stance and a high hand set and back elbow at the plate, utilizes a leg lift trigger for timing and gets spread through lower half while moving into contact. Full swing path through the zone and shows some present bat speed, contact oriented approach and projects with added strength, tends to open front side early in swing. Excellent student.
