2020 California Workout Camp (Sunday)
Todd John “TJ” Cataldi is a 2023 OF/RHP with a 5-11 180 lb. frame from Santa Clarita, CA who attends Sierra Canyon HS. TJ is a talented, up and coming athlete who shows a sound fundamental base that should allow him to take his game to new heights. In addition to being a solid prospect on the diamond, TJ is also a top achiever in the classroom. He ran a 7.50 60 yard dash. A primary outfielder, TJ is a very sound prospect. His quicker feet allow for easy and sure positioning. His glove works and he plays through the fielding action with gathering momentum. He transitions consistently well to a noticeably sound, 82 mph arm. His throws show consistent carry and accuracy. Solid prospect here. TJ also took his turn on the mound. He shows an easy and smooth operation that he routinely repeats. He works down the slope well using a shorter takeaway and an extended finish. He pitches off his 77-79 mph fastball that is very active, showing arm side run and heavy sink. His FB is always moving. He works the edges well and keeps the ball in the lower half. His 12/6 breaking, 59 mph curveball shows commendable spin and depth. His 63 mph change up is actually a fairly mature pitch that he throws with confidence and conviction. At the plate, TJ shows a bit of steepness to his plane and an ability to contact the ball consistently. When his timing is right, he impacts the baseball. His operation is sound and he isn't afraid to swing the stick. TJ has the tools to really become a solid prospect. He has three more years to work on his game and it appears by and through his body language that baseball is very important to him. Some promising upside for the young player.
