2018 Mid-Atlantic Prospect Showcase
Vincent Vartolone is a 2020 RHP/3B with a 6-0 175 lb. frame from Lodi, NJ who attends Lodi. Medium frame with a lean build. Frame projects to support additional strength. Primary right handed pitcher with a side step to medium leg lift delivery. Stays balanced at gather and works to t he plate with drop and drive actions. Deep arm circle at take back and released from a three-quarters arm slot. Fastball jumped out of hand well creating good downhill plane with run to arm side in the mid 70's to low 80's, topped at 83 miles per hour. Curveball had 11/5 shape with solid spin and good depth. Tends to slow arm speed slightly with curveball offering. Also showed a 9/4 slider offering that showed tighter spin and late, sharp tilt in the low 70's. Displayed good feel for the zone and effectively changed speeds. Challenged hitters and induced weak contact when locating to the bottom of the zone. Also worked out defensively from the infield showing smooth paced footwork while surrounding the baseball. Funnels from a slightly deeper position and maintained momentum to the bag while working through exchange. Released from a three-quarters arm slot creating accurate carry to the bag at 80 miles per hour. Right handed hitter with an upright, slightly open stance and simple leg lift trigger. Works to contact with rotational lower half actions. Showed good fluidity through the zone while aggressively throwing the barrel head to contact. Looked to work the ball to the middle of the field and pull side gap. Excellent student as well.
