Matthew Whitting is a 2022 C/UT with a 5-7 160 lb. frame from Bellaire, TX who attends Lamar. Solid compact athlete showed quickness across his tools with excellent backstop actions. Primary catcher, a lot of quality twitch in his well-developed mechanics. Footwork is smooth with consistent placement, glove work is soft with easy receiving skills and the tight arm action is fluid with a quick release and carry on the bag. Right-handed hitter, utilizes shorter levers with a heavy barrel crossing the zone. Hands are quick generating bat speed, lofted path produces good leverage when he connects clean. Projects well overall with athletic upside.
