Derek Smith is a 2022 C/3B with a 6-2 182 lb. frame from Scottsdale, AZ who attends Horizon. Long and lean athletic build with plenty of physical projection remaining. 7.33 runner in the sixty. Has athletic actions behind the plate, gets into his hips well and has agility and some explosion, with more there as he gets stronger, arm swing exchange with a good short arm action, pretty mature footwork. Right handed hitter, deep hand set with a barrel wrap load, swings hard and has some bat speed with more to come, line drive pull contact with some jump off the barrel. Excellent student, verbal commitment to Oklahoma State.
