Tyler Wessels is a 2020 C/RHP, 2B with a 6-0 180 lb. frame from Brimfield, IL who attends Elmwood. Medium frame with a lean build. Frame projects for additional strength. Primary catcher with a low, side set stance while receiving the baseball. Gains some ground while workout out of crouch with smooth paced footwork. Loose glove circle at exchange and released from a three-quarters slot. Throws produced on line carry to the bag topping at 74 miles per hour, best workout pop time of 2.01. Left handed hitter with an upright, open stance and simple front side trigger. Stays on back side throughout swing and worked to contact with rotational actions. Direct hand path to baseball with a naturally lifted barrel plane through extension. Flashed solid bat speed through extension while employing a mid field approach. Flashed the ability to throw barrel head to baseball and generated loud contact to pull side. Also pitched utilizing a front step to medium leg lift delivery. Creates coil at gather, showing pocket, and utilized lower half well while driving to the plate. Loose arm circle at take back and released from a three-quarters slot. Worked to each side of the plate with a fastball offering that sat in the upper 70's to low 80's, topped at 81 miles per hour. Curveball had 11/5 shape with loose spin and good depth when maintaining arm speed. Good student. Named to the 2019 Pitcher/Catcher Indoor Showcase, Top Prospect List.
