Jayden Asencio is a 2022 C/2B, OF with a 5-9 175 lb. frame from Central Islip, NY who attends St. John the Baptist. Medium, square shouldered build with present strength throughout, strong lower half. Ran an 8.01 60-yard dash. Primary catcher, simple set up behind the plate, receives the ball out front and shows quickness to transfer, true carry on throws to second base, accurate when on top, works with a shorter arm action through the back. Also pitched, side step moving into delivery, leg lift up to belt, gets tall on backside, similar short arm action working to a three-quarters release point. Running life to fastball when working arm side, up to 76 mph, flashes cut, can incorporate additional lower half. Tends to drop slot and get around curveball, up to 63 mph with the pitch. Lefthanded hitter, slightly open stance with a high hand set and back elbow at the plate. Gets closed moving into contact and hits the ball out front. Comes off well when squared and creates separation with present bat speed, looks to pull the ball at contact. Very good student.
