2004 World Showcase
Augenstein is a very athletic, tall pitcher with long arms and legs and a strong lower half. He has one of the better young pitching bodies in the country. He showed us good athletic actions and had some of the smoothest, most repeatable pitching mechanics at the showcase. Augenstein’s fastball was in the 86-89 mph range and it looked like he was throwing with no effort. His curveball was 67-70 mph with a sweeping, slurve like action. While Augenstein’s curveball could be quickened and tightened some, he did show an above average ability to throw this pitch for strikes. Overall, he looks like the type of young pitcher who is going to continue to improve his stuff and he already does lots of things very well. Brian is a very good student who will attend U of Florida if he doesn't sign a pro contract. We've seen him in the 90s and so have the MLB Clubs. With a good spring he could become a real good draft pick.
