Jake Clark is a 2020 LHP/1B with a 6-2 150 lb. frame from Calabasas, CA who attends Chaminade College Preparatory. Large frame with a lean build. Frame projects to support plenty of additional size and strength. Primary left handed pitched with a side step to straight up leg kick delivery. Stays tall on back side at gather, stays in line with hips while driving to the plate and carries momentum through finish well. Deep, smooth arm circle back at separation and releases from a high three-quarter to overtop arm slot. Fastball creates some downward angle to the plate with slight cutting action to glove side, topped at 70 miles per hour. Curveball had 1/7 shape with soft rotation and solid depth down in the zone. Tends to slow arm speed with changeup offering, but shows good command of the pitch consistently locating at the bottom of the zone. Consistently filled the strike zone with developing feel to each edge of the plate. Also worked out defensively from first base showing smooth paced actions while surrounding the baseball. Funnels the baseball cleanly from a slightly deeper position with developing fluidity through transition. Released from an extended, high three-quarters arm slot that generated some carry across the infield at 72 miles per hour. Right handed hitter with an upright, straight stance. Flashed some linear actions with lower half, showed some hip quickness when releasing back side to contact. Extended, loose barrel path with the zone with a line drive plane through extension. Primarily worked the middle of the field and consistently produced line drive, groundball contact between the outfield gaps. Tools will continue to develop with physical maturity. Very good student. Named to the 2016 Cal Underclass Top Prospect List.
