Matthew DeVarona is a 2019 RHP/1B with a 6-4 195 lb. frame from Windermere, FL who attends Windermere HS. Tall and lanky athletic build, lots of physical projection. Hides ball well in his delivery, arm is loose and fast coming through, delivery is controlled and repeatable with an easy release. Fastball worked mostly in the 82-84 mph range, topped out at 86 mph, showed the ability to work the pitch to both sides of the plate well, gets good arm side running action at times. Slider was his best pitch, showed plenty of bite and depth with tight spin and good feel for throwing it for strikes. Didn't observe a change up this outing. Should continue to improve as he gets more physically mature and already has solid pitching skills. Exceptional student.
