Andrew Hayes is a 2018 1B/RHP with a 6-5 215 lb. frame from Mesa, AZ who attends Red Mountain HS. Large, tall frame with present strength throughout. Right handed hitter with a tall, open stnace and high back elbow set. Creates slight front side coil at load. Launches lower half with linear actions and solid shift into contact. Natrually lofted swing plane that produces bat speed and strength through contact. Primarily uses a mid-field approach with the strength to split the gaps. Baseball jumps of barrel to the gaps when on time and squared. Worked out defensively from the first base showing smooth funneling glove actions with athletic footwork while surrounding. Creates long strides when moving to both sides with developing range. Fundamental footwork while working around the bag and setting up to receive. Throws across the infield with a lower three-quarters arm slot that prouces some carry with accuracy. Also pitched showin a high leg lift to gathers with a compact arm cirlce back. Creates good extension out front from a high three-quarters arm slot. Fastball creates some downhill action out of hand in the mid 80's, topped at 86 mph. Flashed a slider with some spin and tilt in the lower 70's. Presently shows arm strength and projects for additional velocity. Good two way prospect that will continue to develop, but graded better as a pitching prospect at this time. Good student. Named to 2016 Sunshine West Top Prospect List.
