Austin Reed is a 2020 SS/RHP with a 6-1 170 lb. frame from Buckner, KY who attends Oldham County. Medium frame with a solid build and beginnings of strength. Ran a 6.81 sixty-yard dash. Primary shortstop with clean footwork while ranging to and working through the baseball. Funnels with fluid glove actions and worked through exchange well. Flashed the ability to throw from multiple arm action creating accurate carry across the infield at 86 miles per hour. Right handed hitter with an upright, slightly open stance and reaching front side trigger. Glides to contact with some linear actions. Deep and load and worked to contact on a loose path. Naturally lifted barrel plane through extension and flashed solid bat speed through the zone. Primarily looked to work the ball to the middle of the field but flashed the hand quickness to turn the barrel and work to pull side with aggression as well. Also pitched utilizing a quick paced rock step to high leg lift delivery. Creates slightly coil at gather and used lower half well while driving to the plate. Deep arm circle at take back and released from a high three-quarters arm slot. Fastball jumped out of hand well producing heavy run through the zone in the low to mid 80's, topped at 86 miles per hour. Slider showed 10/4 shape with tight spin and good sweep to glove side in the low 70's. Also flashed a changeup offering that featured sink with run in the low 70's. Consistently looked to challenge hitters in the zone and showed developing feel for the edges of the plate. Excellent student. Named to the 2018 National Academic Showcase Top Prospect List.
