Joe Sassi is a 2019 C/1B, OF with a 6-1 175 lb. frame from Piedmont, CA who attends Piedmont. Large frame with a solid, athletic build. Projects for additional size with strength. Ran a 7.46 sixty yard dash. Primary catcher with a slight side saddle set up. Gains some ground while working to the bag with fundamental footwork. Smooth paced, clean exchanges while working through transfer. Extended arm cirlce to release. Throws produces solid carry to the bag, topped at 71 mph with a best workout pop time of 2.10. Right handed hitter with an upright, balanced stance. Hands load to a deeper barred position. Shows good leverage with a naturally lifted plane through contact. Baseball comes off the barrel well with present strength and bat speed. Primarily uses a mid-field approach, produces loud contact with good carry when working to the pull side gap. Good student. Named to 2016 NorCal Showcase Top Prospect List.
