Kevin Zapanta is a 2018 RHP/3B with a 6-1 165 lb. frame from Denver, CO who attends Overland HS. Tall, lean frame with wiry strength. Right handed pitcher with a long, loose arm action from an extended three-quarters arm slot. Arm action shows solid whip while creating good angle to plate on fastball sitting in the low 80's. Tends to creating some cross body angle at release causing some hard running action to arm side on fastball offerings. Shows a sweeping slider in the low 70's from a lower arm slot. Also flashed a curveball that had softer spin with some depth. Around the zone often while showing very consistent, repeatable mechanics. Right handed hitter with an open stance, high back elbow set and leg lift trigger. Launches to contact with an extended swing plane showing occasional natural lift. Looks to use the middle of the field driving the baseball gap to gap. Emphasizes creating a strong front side at contact. Also worked out defensively from the infield showing a smooth arm action with a clean release from a lower arm slot. Tends to stay back on baseball at times when working through transition. Has athletic actions while charging slow rollers with clean exchanges. Tools will continue to develop physical maturity. Very good student as well.
