Joe Diaz is a 2017 1B/RHP with a 6-1 200 lb. frame from Miami, FL who attends Florida Christian HS. Large, athletic frame with broad shoulders and present strength proportioned throughout. Primary first baseman, solid actions coming off the bag with athleticism to movements, hands play well at the ball, strong arm on throws across with top throw of 81 mph, showed accuracy and carry out of the hand to intended base. Also pitched, begins with a side step moving into delivery with a slight hip turn at the top. Upper body release with a lower three-quarters release point. Shows quickness to arm action and topped out at 82 mph with sinking life down in the zone. Attacks hitters with fastball and induces weak contact, buries slider down in zone. Righthanded hitter at the plate, begins with a high hand set in the body. Big shift moving into contact, inside path and incorporates strength well at point of contact, shows carry and pop to the opposite field. Fires hips through swing well with a sound finish, looks to drive the ball with approach and has ability to do so. Very good student.
