Tom Mitzner is a 2007 RHP/1B from McKinney HS in McKinney, TX, with a 6'3'', 185 lb frame. He has a tall, athletic build that projects very well for a pitcher. Mitzner has a sound delivery and has a good downhill plane to the plate from a 3/4's release point. He has a short compact arm action and repeats his release point well. Mitzner throws a heavy sinking 81 mph fastball and does a very good job of attacking the strike zone and working the lower corners. His breaking ball is a 71 mph slider with a sharp sweeping 10/4 break and good depth. Mitzner is a ground ball pitcher who throws strikes with solid stuff and knows how to get outs. He should be able to pick up velocity as he gets stronger and fills out his frame. He's a good follow and also a good student.
