Nelson Alvarez is a 2016 RHP/3B/1B with a 6-6 230 lb. frame from Miami, FL who attends G. Holmes Braddock HS. Very well proportioned extra large build, has lots of strength and room for more. Quality two way prospect who could end up better either way. Smooth repeatable delivery on the mound, stays tall on his backside with a pause over the rubber, uses his power half well with good direction to release, short quick arm action, 3/4's arm slot. Upper 80's fastball, topped out at 90 mph, gets good angle to the plate and nice running action as well. Curveball and slider are similar pitches, both have tight spin and sweeping action and are thrown for strikes. Nice change up with fading action is also thrown for strikes, has a four-pitch mix. Right handed hitter who showed big power potential, has a very short swing for his size and long levers and creates plus bat speed, ball comes off the barrel loud and hard, swung the bat well in games. Will end up at first base defensively and will be fine there, with soft hands and some agility. Very intriguing prospect who has not committed to a school yet.
