LATEST PG SHOWCASE REPORT
2006 California Underclass
Matt Ellis is a 2007 OF/P/C from Los Gatos HS, residing in Los Gatos, CA, with a 6'0" 195 lb. frame. He has a nice, well-proportioned frame that in the future will hold added strength gains. A right handed hitter, Ellis showed some bat speed in the BP session at the CA Underclass Showcase. He also displayed a decent trigger to start his swing. Ellis made nice barrel contact and during his swing he stayed vertically stacked while making his weight shift from back to front. Ellis has a leg kick lower half movment and some quick hip movement. There is some future power potential that exists. On defense Ellis is an accurate thrower. He approached the ball well and showed some arm strength. There really isn't anything flashy about him, he simply has a strong fundamental technique and some tools that work within that technique. On the mound Ellis pitched from a 3/4 slot with a good arm arc that was clean on the backside. He used a compact delivery that he repeated well. Ellis used three pitches and showed the ability to mix them a little bit. He would benefit from using his 70 mph CB more to compliment his 80 mph FB. Ellis should be considered a small-mid D1 prospect that should be followed next summer.
