2005 Midwest Top Prospect Showcase
Tom Erpenbach is a 6-2, 180 lb senior outfielder from South Dakota with a strong, athletic frame. He ran well underway with a 7.33 60 time and showed good speed in the outfield going after the ball. Erpenbach's arm strength is solid college level at 84 mph with good arm looseness and some on line carry. Erpenbach also worked out in the infield and showed good overall balance and athletic ability but projects best in the outfield. His loose arm and arm strength also makes one think of what he would do on the mound if given a chance. Offensively, Erpenbach has a rock back trigger and no stride approach to the ball. This leaves him late getting the bat started frequently. When he gets the bat going, Erpenbach shows a line drive swing plane and some bat speed. Some adjustments to his load and trigger could provide immediate help in his bat speed and timing. Overall, Erpenbach is a very good athlete who might lack the repetitions of some players in different parts of the country but who has the tools to play the game well at the next level. He is a good student.
