Taylor Gelbrich is a 2007 C/3B/OF with a 6'1'', 200 lb. frame from Los Angeles CA, who attends St. Monica HS. Selected as a Top Prospect at this event. Gelbrich has a strong core area, along with strong legs. He performed really with the bat in this event and also showed very good defensive abilities and fundamentals. At the plate he has a knack for centering the baseball on the barrel. Gelbrich has a pretty good power stroke and it plays from gap to gap, maybe even best to the oppo gap. His hands are strong and he gets through contact well, driving the baseball to all parts of the field. At the catcher position, his power potential is very intriguing. Defensively Gelbrich flashed very good catch/throw skills in the workout. He has a quick exchange and feet that work very quickly, sometimes too quickly. An adjustment will have to be made to get his momentum moving more directly to 2nd base during his delivery, but his tools are there, including being able to block, sitting well, and being a good receiver. His skill set is quite well-rounded and his bat will play. He is a solid student too. Gelbrich's older brother is a catching prospect at the University of San Diego.
