LATEST PG SHOWCASE REPORT
2006 National Showcase
Seth Blair is a 2007 right hand pitcher from Rock Falls HS, residing in Rock Falls, IL. Blair is athletically built with a strong yet flexible body type and a 6'2" 190 lb. frame. He has some room to fill out and should he maintain his looseness, he could have some of the most explosive stuff in this class in a few years. As it is, his stuff is already very good and he was ranked #25 among PG National Top 85 pitchers and like many of the pitchers in this showcase, he did not show as good as he can because he, like those others, were throwing for the guns. He pitches from a 3/4 slot with a long, loose, and clean arm action. His stroke and delivery are free and easy, starting with an over the head delivery. It was nice to see a young pitcher with an idea of how to create that type of rhythm in his delivery and it works well. Blair touched up to 93 and pitched in the 89-92 range, without a lot of effort. The ball comes out of his hand easily and to see a 92 on the gun at times was quite surprising. He pitched in with the fastball well and at times there was bore type action on the arm side. He showed a 75 mph sweeping breaking ball that can work well as a complement to his fastball. When he was at his most patient throwing that pitch it was pretty good, the type that can either sweep off the plate or possibly be used by starting at the front hip of a RH hitter and locking him up. Blair has a great slot for the change-up and he showed plus feel of his 78-79 change-up. That pitch has plus action down in the zone, with fade away from LH hitters. He is athletic on the mound and in some ways looked similar to Jake Peavy of the Padres. That is a big comparison, but give him some time... that being said, he is a high level D1 prospect and will also get some crosschecker attention this spring.
