Marcus Pointer is a 2007 RHP/OF with a 6'2'', 160 lb. frame from Pacifica, CA, who attends Serra HS. Tall, lean, athletic frame. On the mound he throws from a 3/4 arm slot with solid arm action and a short arm circle on the back side. Pointer has solid arm speed with minimal effort, and a controlled and balanced delivery. The ball comes out of his hand well, and he keeps his pitches down. His fastball topped out at 83 mph, and he mixed in a solid curveball at 70, and a 75 mph changeup. Pointer has the makings of a good curveball, especially when he stays on top of the pitch getting good depth. He has confidence in his breaking ball and he throws it in any count. Pointer did not allow and earned run in 3 IP while striking out 5. Defensively he has solid arm action on his throws from the outfield and the ball comes out of his hand well. Pointer is accurate with his throws and shows solid arm strength. At the plate he hits from a straight away stance with his hands away from his body. He uses a line drive swing plane and he has upside at the plate. Very good student as well.
