Clate Schmidt is a 2012 RHP/SS with a 6-2 175 lb. frame from Acworth, GA who attends Allatoona HS. Slender athletic frame, young look, room to get stronger. Back turn delivery, 3/4's arm slot, works from the stretch, some effort at release but stays directional well, very fast arm. Consistent 93-95 mph fastball, hard boring action at times. Low 80's curveball, nasty knee buckling bite at times, hard and sharp. Raw stuff/delivery similar to Lance McCullers minus a few mph's. 6.68 runner, nice infield actions, light on his feet, good footwork, hands work well at the ball, throws easy, has the actions/athleticism. Tall stance hitting, hands back, line drive swing plane, hits to all fields, good barrel. Pitching is his future. Good student, verbal commitment to Clemson. Named to the Perfect Game All American Classic team.
