Kelby Deerman is a 2008 LHP/1B/OF with a 6'1'', 173 lb. frame from Owens Crossroads, AL, who attends Madison Academy. Named to the Top Prospect Team at this event. Deerman has present strength in his athletic body and projects to get even stronger. On the mound he throws from a high 3/4 arm slot with a long and clean arm action. Deerman has a good delivery with low effort and low stress. He has rhythm on the mound and showed good tempo. Deerman showed pitchability by mixing his pitches an keeping hitters off-balance. He gets run and sink on his FB that topped out at 82 mph. Had depth to his CB, and showed a feel for his CH at 74 mph. He has upside on the mound. Defensively he has soft hands at 1B and he handled the position well. At the plate he is a left handed hitter with a simple approach and s short swing. He made consistent mid-field contact, and showed the ability to hit to all fields. There is projectable power in his bat, and he stayed back well on off-speed pitches. Once on the bases, he is a good base runner with quickness and instincts. He is also a good student.
