Verts is a big strong young man with strong hips and thighs who showed us good potential both on the mound and as a hitter. He has athletic actions and good balance for his size and wouldn’t hurt his overall potential by tightening up his body just a little. Verts threw 84-88 mph with his fastball and did a good job filling the zone, hitting his spots. He gets a lot of power from his lower half during his delivery. Verts’ curveball is a quality pitch, with a hard downer break at 70-73 mph. Not surprisingly, Verts’ best tool at the plate is his raw power potential. The ball jumps off his bat on contact and he drove the ball well in both batting practice and against live pitching, just missing a home run on one occasion in a game. This young man has a good chance to be a two-way player at the next level. For sure he is a high level DI pitching prospect. He should get some draft interest as well. Josh is a solid student who has signed to go to Indiana.
