2006 National Showcase
Andrew Nettune is a 2007 right hand hitting catcher from All Saint Episcopal HS, residing in Athens, TX. Nettune has a stock and strong build on his 6'0" 200 lb. frame that looks quite capable of handling the rigors of the catching position. Nettune clearly enjoys being on the field and showed solid all-around ability to get himself ranked #56 among PG National Top 100 position players. Hitting from a square stance, Nettune set up at the plate somewhat in the manner that Mark McGwire did, with narrow knees and and upright bat. He was pretty short to the ball and his swing showed that he is quite strong. Nettune kept his bat flat pretty flat through the zone and showed that he has a chance to hit for some power from gap to gap. He consistently got the barrel to the ball. With average bat speed, Nettune creates his power with good timing and balance at contact, along with his strength. As for his defensive abilities, Nettune seemed to be in control of himself on the field. He showed a patient transfer from glove to hand when he threw and has an arm with some carry. Though his arm strength is good average, he gives consistency in the catch/throw department with his accuracy and will get his fair share of runners. He enjoys throwing and was stalking an opportunity for outs via the backpick. Nettune also showed pretty well at times as a receiver and brought energy to the position. He ran 4.64 home/1st and posted a laser timed 7.03 60. Nettune is a D1 catching prospect that should has quite a bit of success with the aluminum bat and likely will earn himself a professional opportunity after his college career.
