2006 California Underclass
Jon Cavender is a 2007 3B/C from Los Osos HS, residing in Rancho Cucamonga, CA, with a 6'0" 185 lb. frame. He has a strong and well-proportioned build, certainly looking the part when you scan the players on the field. On offense, Cavender, a right-handed hitter, hits from a square, wide stance. He maintains a quiet head during his swing and stays vertically stacked. Cavender has an all-fields hitting approach and seemed to really like the ball down in the zone. He displayed balance in his swing, though his lower half tended to work, though a bit late with his timing. On defense at 3B, Cavender gets low as he readies himself to field the ball. He showed solid hands and and efficiency on defense, not flash or overacted action. Cavender was good in his stationery area with his low, wide set-up. Behind the plate Cavender showed himself capable of being a utility player for a college team. He put in good effort to block the ball and showed consistent, if not fast pop times. He has a strong body and looked like he will physically develop well in the coming years. Cavender is a follow prospect for small to mid-size college programs.
