James Gonzalez is a 6'5" 190 pound 2007 right handed pitcher from Long Beach, California who attends Long Beach Jordan High School. He is tall and lanky with a lean body and long arms and legs. He has a very projectable body with room to add more muscle. James throws from a 3/4 arm slot with a fluid even tempo and fair arm speed. He stands tall and is loose out front with some arm strength and a good feel for the strike zone. His fastball tops out at 81 mph and he has the ability to throw it for strikes. His curveball has some good tilt at 65-67 mph with occasional late break and depth. His chanegup at 66-71 mph is a decent pitch with some sink to it at times. At the plate, Gonzalez hits with a slightly open stance and a narrow base. He has some good bat speed through the hitting zone and has good leverage and balance through his swing. He will throw the head and center the ball very well. He is an aggressive hitter who has the ability to drive the ball with projectable power.
