Bender is a 5-10 right handed pitcher from New Jersey with a medium athletic frame. He has a sound, smooth and controlled delivery that enabled him to hit spots effectively to both sides of the plate. Bender’s fastball was in the 81-84 mph range and he alternated hand side running action and some cut depending on his grip. Of course, any pitcher named Bender is going to have a decent breaking ball and Bender did in a mid-70’s slider that had good velocity and a short, sharp break. Bender didn’t throw a change up that we noted. He also showed his arm strength during outfield drills throwing 84 mph from there, too. We don’t consider Bender a position player prospect at this point but he did take a nice BP and had a couple of hits against live pitching. He is an excellent student.
