We were told that English was pitching on short rest in Lincoln, which was important information to have. His fastball was only in the 84-87 mph range and we’ve heard of English throwing much harder than that. His best pitch was a hard 73-75 mph curveball that had tight spin and a good, late break to it. That he threw it in the mid-70’s just lends more credibility to the conjecture that English usually has better velocity on his fastball. At 6-1 and bigger and stronger looking than his listed 185, English doesn’t have much physical projectability, but with a high 80’s fastball and his present breaking pitch, he has plenty enough present stuff to be successful. Eric is definitely a high level DI prospect and a top notch student.
