2007 Hawaii Showcase Tournament
Matt Hixson is a 2007 OF/P with a 6'0'', 160 lb. frame from Lomita CA, who attends South Torrance HS. He has a lean, wiry build on an athletic frame. With some more time and development, Hixson has the base tools and fundamentals to develop into a productive college player, possibly at the D1 level. He made consistently good contact in the event and hits to all fields. He has some natural leverage in his swing and flashed some power potential. Hixson has the ability to keep his barrel in the zone and most of the time drove through contact while keeping his hands inside the ball. Defensively he showed off a quick, strong outfield arm. He approaches the ball well and read the ball in the air well, allowing him to set-up to throw in really good position. On the mound he showed good body control and a clean arm action. His fastball topped at 80 mph and has good sink action. As he gets stronger, he will throw harder and no matter how hard he throws, Hixson has a chance to develop into a really effective sinkerballer at the college level. He should be followed, especially so if he goes to a junior college.
