Derek Diaz is a 2024 C/RHP, 3B with a 5-9 170 lb. frame from White Plains, NY who attends White Plains Senior. Recorded a 7.93 second sixty-yard dash time. Medium frame with compact build and plenty of time to physically mature. Primary catcher; side-saddled stance with quick step-and-replace footwork out of the crouch and fairly quick mid-line transfers. Incorporates slightly offline footwork towards his target with developing arm strength recorded up to 67 mph from behind the plate in drills. Secondary right-handed pitcher that works exclusively from the stretch. Shorter stride out to foot strike, while working into a higher three-quarters arm slot and occasional cut to the fastball. Fastball worked in the low-to-mid 70s, topping out at 76 mph with pretty good command to both sides of the plate. Developing feel for spin with 11-5 shaped curveball that shows gradual depth through the strike zone. Will continue to improve on the mound with more velocity in the the future and overall physical maturity. Right-handed hitter that hits from a narrow, slightly open stance with a high back elbow and toe-tap trigger. Minimal hand movement with short, flat bat path. Middle-to-opposite field approach with present bat speed and developing feel for the barrel. Will continue to improve with additional strength and maturity. Excellent Student.
