Zain Smith is a 2023 C/SS, MIF, UT with a 5-10 163 lb. frame from Lafayette, GA who attends Lafayette High School. Ran a 6.98 second sixty-yard dash time. Primary catcher with medium frame and strength in present build. Side saddle setup with quiet actions behind the plate. Quick transfer with short arm-action to over top release. Creates a clean line to target, replacing feet well before releasing out front with developing arm speed. Throws at 72-mph in drills paired with a 2.00 pop-time. Secondary shortstop, with clean defensive actions, feel for the glove, and lateral quickness which helps him work through the ball well. Throws in the infield at 74-mph. Right-handed hitter with slightly open stance with hands high in his setup. Bat speed and barrel awareness lead to strong contact with carry to the gaps. Power will continue to develop with further strength gain and repetition to actions. Good student.
