Sam Kirkpatrick is a 2020 SS/RHP, 2B, 3B with a 5-8 160 lb. frame from Franklin, TN who attends Montgomery Bell Academy. Medium while with an athletic frame and wiry strength. Ran a 7.34 sixty-yard dash. Primary shortstop with smooth, fluid actions while traveling to an working through the baseball. Funnels out front and worked through exchange with clean glove to hand transfers. Showed developing accuracy while throwing across the infield topping at 75 miles per hour. Right handed hitter with a spread, slightly crouched stance and simple leg lift trigger. Shifts into contact with linear actions and stays balanced throughout. Simple path to contact with a line drive barrel plane through extension. Barrel stayed through the zone well allowing for a high contact, mid field approach. Flashed the hand quickness to turn the barrel and work to pull side as well. Also pitched utilizing and side step to medium leg lift delivery. Shorter take back and released from a compact arm slot. Tends to land at a closed position on front side creating some crossfire at release. Worked to each edge of the plate with a fastball that sat in the low to mid 70's, topped at 76 miles per hour. Good feel for breaking ball offering that had 12/6 shape with good depth to the bottom of the zone in the low 60's. Kept hitters off balance and attacked the strike zone with both pitches. Excellent student. Tools will continue to develop with maturity and repetition.
