2007 Pitcher/Catcher Indoor Showcase
Jake Smolinski is a 2007 SS/OF/3B with a 6'0'', 193 lb. frame from Rockford IL, who attends Boylan Catholic HS. He has tightly wound, extra strong body that will have to be monitored for stiffness if he gets any stronger. He's obviously been working hard on the weights this off season. Smolinski hits from a very calm and quiet approach and explodes to the ball with plus strength and outstanding bat speed. The calm approach and explosive quickness enables Smolinski to wait on balls and be a very selective hitter. When he makes contact, the ball comes off Smolinski's bat very hard. He crushed some balls hard to the middle of the field and would have hit some bombs if he hadn't been in a cage. He has great leverage at contact when he gets his front foot down in time. Smolinski is a very advanced hitter who should hit right away at the next level. He is a good student and has committed to Clemson.
