Jaron Shepherd is a 2007 left hand hitting outfielder from Kilgore HS, residing in Kilgore, TX. Shepherd has a lean and wiry strong build on a 6'1" 175 lb. frame that a lot of room to fill out. He is an athletic player that will continue to develop and at times flashed very intriguing ability. He was ranked #73 among PG National Top 100 position players and looked to be one that has a chance to develop beyond some of the players ranked ahead of him. Shepherd is a good looking hitting prospect. He hit from a slightly open stance and did a nice job of keeping his body behind the ball. He is a line drive contact hitter with an inside out swing that will serve him very well as he continues to develop strength. He has good present day bat speed and more in the future. Shepherd got through contact pretty well and in time will be driving the ball to the opposite field. Shepherd can let the ball travel and put a good swing on the ball. Someday he is going to be a very dangerous hitter. He has the bat speed to easily get to the pull side if he wants to but presently is disciplined in his opposite field approach. Follow him closely. In the outfield Shepherd showed good hands and above average raw arm strength. He is an accurate thrower and showed himself to be a very solid centerfielder that has achance to develop into a plus defender. Shepherd ran 4.14 home/1st with a laser timed 6.87 60 yard time. He is an impact type D1 prospect with a chance to develop into an upper round professional prospect during his college career, if not sooner.
