Nick Gavilla is a 2019 LHP/OF with a 5-9 145 lb. frame from Melville, NY who attends Half Hollow Hills East HS. Medium, athletic frame with square shoulders and a lean, projectable build with room to fill throughout moving forward. Ran a 7.30 60-yard dash. Primary lefthanded pitcher, slight pause at top of balance point, lands slightly open with strike foot but works on top of the ball and able to generate plane. Medium arm stroke through the back, works to an over-the-top release point, fastball topped out at 79 mph, mostly true in life but creates angle at release. Pitches to contact, showed a nice 1-7 shaped curveball with depth and tight spin, flashed a straight changeup at 71 mph and creates some deception. Fields the ball cleanly in the outfield, quick-twitch to actions, works behind the ball well and shows solid arm strength out of the hand with nice accuracy. Lefthanded hitter, square stance in the box, shifts weight well into contact and remains on line with lower half. Shows natural lift to swing plane and has intent with swing, consistently finds the barrel and works the pull side with regularity. Shows potential as a two-way prospect. Very good student.
