Juan Jose Contreras is a RHP from the Dominican Republic. Long arms and legs with a strong lower half and lean upper half,. Loose and quick arm, extremely fast coming through, stays over the rubber well and utilizes his lower half very well, good direction to the plate, good balance and overall athleticism, high 3/4's arm slot. Fastball was steady in the low 90's and topped out at 94 mph, showed plus life frequently down in the zone, heavy fastball that gets on hitters quickly. Slider has good power and sharp biting action. Tried some cutter's off his fastball but still developing feel for the pitch. Has the ability to throw his fastball and slider in different locations with intent. Good athlete who fielded his position well. Has all the ingredients you'd want to see in a highest level pitching prospect. International free agent who is eligible to sign immediately.
