Braiden Ward is a 2017 SS with a 5-10 145 lb. frame from Merced, CA who attends El Capitan HS. Medium frame with a lean build. Projects for additional strength with continued physical development. Ran a 6.52 sixty yard dash. Primary shortstop active, athletic footwork while ranging to and surrounding the baseball. Clean, fundamental glove actions while funneling the baseball. Tends to let the baseball travel to a deeper position at times. Shows good arm strength from a high three-quarters slot topping at 86 mph across the infield. Throws generated stiff on line carry with accuracy across the infield. Very athletic action while closing to and working through slow roller. Right handed hitter with spread, open stance. Smooth swing path through the zone with solid rhythm through finish. Has some present bat speed and pop through the zone, baseball jumps off the barrel to the gaps when squared. Primarily used a mid-field approach but flashed the ability to turn the barrel to contact and produce loud, line drive contact to the pull side gap. Also pitched, works exclusively from the stretch. Has a directional delivery with a compact stride. Releases from a high three-quarters to near over top slot. Generates good downhill angle to the plate with fastball that topped at 84 mph. Fastball also had good sinking action with run when located down in the strike zone. Curveball has very tight speed with solid late depth as well. Mixed and matched pitched well consistently keeping hitters off balanced and missing barrels. Very good student. Named to the 2016 West Cost Top Prospect Showcase, Top Prospect List.
